Between the Lines is an 8 card set featuring MLP:FIM convention mascots in classic and popular literature roles!
Designs by myself and with art by Arcadian Phoenix!
Permission has been obtained by each convention to use their mascots.

I'll admit a lot of these are kind of going over my head; Canni is the only mascot so far that I recognize.

That said, I'm having a bit of a hard time liking the art of the two from behind (Rokuet and Canni). With Rokuet being a flip card, I guess it makes a certain kind of sense, but still for the both of them they end up losing a lot of potential detail.

My design journals go into more detail about the mascots and the roles they are playing: http://ithryskylark.deviantart.com/journal/?catpath=/ The conventions they are from are listed at the bottom of the card as well.

I'm not super jazzed about the behind shots either. As you said, I think it works for Rokuet, but not  so much for Canni. I had mentioned changing angles for Canni's card to Arc, but she's been insanely busy lately with her job, so it looks like she didn't have time to make adjustments. Not the worst though, and it somewhat makes sense with the action shot, so I'm not super upset about it or anything.

Well, I mean for me it's more a matter of knowing the mascots as characters rather than just being able to look at the text and go "oh, okay, so that's the mascot for X con". Honestly, Canni just might be the only mascot I'd be that familiar with across all pony conventions, simply because of the multiple voiced animations I've seen with her. I've recognized all the roles so far (except that it took a few days to get "Jane Eyre" since I never read that one).

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that the from-behind arts were bad, just that I found myself thinking they could have been a bit more eye-catching from the front. I don't have nearly enough experience in creating or critiquing art to make those sorts of calls.

A lot of the smaller con mascots don't have a ton of information or promotional media about them. Many are also foreign, so I wouldn't expect everyone to know every mascot. When I was doing mascot research for Between the Lines, I only contacted cons that had upfront information about their mascots and at least names. This happened to be most of them (though many didn't get back to me). I think only a few, like Friendship Express and Running of the Leaves Con didn't have ready information about them in some form.

If you are interested in learning more about some of the mascots you may not be familiar with, many times the convention websites have more information on their mascots backgrounds and personalities. Japan Ponycon and Crystal Mountain Ponycon specifically have a few past promotional videos you can check out on Youtube that display character personality:
